Help:Editing

From AruaROSE Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Welcome to the AruaROSE editing help! This page is made to help you edit and create new articles to the Wiki. Do note that at the moment, you will need a user account that has to be elevated to a certain rank for you to edit articles. When you register, be patient and wait for it to become elevated.

Basics

First of all, write good English. Check your articles and edits for typos and blatant grammatical errors before you save them. If you are unsure about how something is typed, ask somebody else about it before guessing wildly. No change made to the Wiki is permanent, but it's unnecessary work for others to clean up your articles. When copying something from the forums, do a little work and tidy up the language.

For the basic help such as syntax, read the Wikipedia editing help. Keep a consistent, encyclopedia-like writing style, much like Wikipedia. Most of all, write articles that would help you and give you information if you were reading them.

Do not be afraid to write a new article! If you feel like something is missing, or notice that something is missing from a red link, and you know something about it, just start writing. If there are similar articles, if you are writing about a map, for example, look at the other pages to see how they are done. If there are no similar articles, you can make the article just as you wish, but try to keep it clean, informative and aptly named.

Article naming

As mentioned in the Wikipedia editing help, try to keep the article names as simple as possible. Do not use start article names with "a", "an" and "the" unless there's a strong reason for doing so. For example, not "The Ultimate Mage Guide", but "Ultimate Mage Guide". Also, try to keep the article names informative. "Ultimate Mage Guide" should be "PvP Mage Guide" or "AoE Mage Guide" if it covers one kind of a build or "Complete Mage Guide" if it covers many builds and other aspects.

Capitalization

The first letter of the article name will be automatically capitalized. Do not capitalize other words unless they're capitalized so in-game. For example, "Marsh of Ghosts" and "Forest of Wandering", but not "Junon Monsters" (should be "Junon monsters") or "Champion Guides" (should be "Champion guides). As a rule, names (maps, planets, monsters, weapons) should be capitalized.

In-game terms

There are some minor variances of some in-game terms. Here are some preferences of what to use in the Wiki. It's not absolutely necessary to use the preferred one, but at least use only one of them in the same article.

 • Champion / Champ: Use Champion
 • Magician / Mage: Use Mage
 • Lunar / Luna: Use Luna
 • Zuly / zulie: Use zuly

Some commonly misspelled words:

 • Sikuku
 • Ikaness
 • Arumics
 • Ferrell

Abbreviations

As a guideline, do not use abbreviations (DoD, FoW or such), because especially new players usually have no clue of what they mean. There are some exceptions to this, since some abbreviations are commonly used:

 • PvP, PvM
 • AoE
 • HP, MP etc.

Images

To use images on the articles, first upload the image to the Wiki by using Special:Upload. Then you can add the image to an article as instructed in the editing help. The exception to this are item icons from the game, which are found under http://images.aruarose.com/rose_icons/ . The icon name can be found among others from the last VFS dump. Be warned that the dump is a large file at 485MB.

Categories

First read the category help from Wikipedia. On the AruaROSE Wiki, use categories logically: Each weapon type and armor class should have its own category, as should maps for each planet, monsters for a certain level range, monsters on a certain map and so on. If they don't, edit them to have it. This makes it a lot easier to have lists of these things, since you don't have to edit the list by hand. For an example, see Weapons.

Quick syntax help

 • To add a page to a category, add , for example to the end of the article. It really doesn't matter where the category tag is, but in the end of the article it's easier to manage.
 • Categories can be found with the prefix Category:, for example http://wiki.aruarose.com/index.php/Category:Weapons
 • Categories can be linked to with link text, for example Weapons (as used earlier in this article). Note the leading colon.
